Job Description

The Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (CRVWWDA) invites applications from self-driven, result-oriented, and highly motivated Kenyan citizens to fill the position of Engineer 1 (Civil) (Job Grade CRV 7). This is a re-advertisement and replacement vacancy.

  • Reports to: Senior Engineer / Chief Engineer

  • Duty Station: Nakuru, with project sites across Baringo, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, and Nyandarua counties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and supervise the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, dam, and irrigation infrastructure projects within the Agency’s jurisdiction.

  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, bills of quantities, tender documents, and technical specifications for civil works.

  • Conduct site surveys, feasibility studies, and geotechnical investigations to inform project designs.

  • Monitor project progress against approved budgets, timelines, and quality standards; prepare regular progress reports.

  • Ensure all civil works comply with relevant Kenyan standards, Water Act 2016, Environmental Management and Coordination Act, and occupational safety regulations.

  • Liaise with contractors, consultants, county governments, and community stakeholders during project implementation.

  • Supervise junior engineers, technicians, and artisans assigned to specific projects.

  • Assist in contract administration, including valuation of works, certification of payments, and variation management.

  • Maintain accurate project documentation and as-built drawings for handover.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) from a recognized university.

  • Professional Registration: Must be registered as a Graduate Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Corporate Member will be an added advantage.

  • Membership: Corporate membership of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) is desirable.

  • Experience: At least three (3) years of relevant post-qualification experience in civil engineering works, preferably in water supply, dams, irrigation, or wastewater projects in the public or private sector.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS applications, and standard project management software (MS Project or Primavera). Strong knowledge of contract documentation (FIDIC or PPRA guidelines) and Kenyan procurement laws.

  • Other Attributes: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to work in remote field locations and under tight deadlines; high level of integrity.
